The Renaissance Shoppe was started
in 1994 in Hutchinson Kansas. We are dedicated to locating the best craftspersons in
order to bring you the finest wares available.
We started as an AD&D marathon
tournament. Our first introduction to renaissance festivals was around 1982
when we discovered the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. One visit was enough
to ensnare us in the thrall of the atmosphere and excitement of this thrilling
experience. By the next spring we were outfitted with the clothing and
characters of our new personas. Our first official faire as the Abbython
Adventure Guild was the Kansas Newman Renaissance Faire in Wichita Kansas. We
watched and talked with the street performers and developed our own acts called
"schicks". We also developed a division of crafters to sell hand
crafted items at the Faires. From there we performed at the Topeka
Fantasy Faire, Norman OK Medieval Faire, Faire of the Midlands in Council
Bluffs IA, the Iowa Renaissance Festival and Harvest Faire, Colorado
Renaissance Festival in Larkspur CO, Southern Illinois Renaissance Festival,
Scarbouough Faire in TX, Abiline Renaissance Festival in Abiline, TX, and have
done school talks and exhibitions and we continue to perform when our schedule
allows.
We now have The Renaissance Shoppe in Hutchinson where we furnish goods for the
medieval enthusiast and new age supplies for the Pagan/Wiccan community. We are
a Guild of crafters and performers. A Guild in the Medieval times was an organization
of crafters or merchants who had a common product and/or goal. Originally they
were created to protect local merchants from outside competition and to set
standards of quality and to set prices for like goods. Later some guilds were
formed to be able to provide for common defense of caravans, shipping, and
shops. From there the guilds began dictating policy to the merchants instead of
the other way around. Please enjoy our tales and wares and remember to take it
all in the spirit of fun in which it is intended. Thank you!
